Freytag & Associates, Inc. was selected for the design of the new PK-6 school building. The extensive use of masonry was utilized in creating the exterior and interior expression of this school building. The main entry area of this school includes a unique brick and stone arch which emulates the arch in the 1885 school building it replaced. An administrative office is strategically located in the entry area providing controlled access to the two story academic area and the student activity section of the building. Grades K-2 are located on the first floor, while grades 3-6 occupy the second floor of the academic wing. A multi-purpose project lab provides a perfect opportunity for teachers and students to engage in “hands-on” activities in many different academic areas. The gymnasium, stage and student dining areas are often utilized for community events, and are available for after school community use through separate access from the outside. The student dining and stage area include high tech sound and lighting systems and are utilized for many different school and community activities, including musical and theatrical productions. Freytag & Associates, Inc. was awarded the “Excellence Award in Masonry” from the Masonry Institute of Dayton for the Fort Loramie PK-6 School Project and American School & University recognized Freytag & Associates, Inc. for “Outstanding Design”. The project was completed in 2009 on time and on budget.
